  • 9V-SYJ in Retro Livery

Taken from the Facebook page of 'The Occasional Spotters'

Can someone verify this? Hope it's not an April Fool's joke.

She is seen here departing from Changi this morning, wearing SIA's 1990s livery, with smaller titles, "JUBILEE" aircraft name, and engine logos!

Live from Crowne Plaza Hotel Changi Airport, presenting Singapore Airlines' new retrojet, 9V-SYJ!

'Yankee Juliet' proudly dons SQ's legacy livery, circa early 1990s-2006. Another interesting livery for us spotters to photograph!

It's apparently an April Fool's joke, but damn I wished it was real.

SQ will probably never do a real retro livery, if only because the livery has stayed so consistent since the beginning. Retro liveries work best when the difference between old and new liveries is pretty obvious. With SQ, non-informed flyers might think "why is the lettering painted oddly..."

The real 9V-SYJ never had the "Jubilee" titles when delivered back in 2005, let alone when the A380 was around.

The only way SQ can do an obviously retro livery is to use the MSA scheme, but that might cause a bit of political uproar.

I wish SQ would do that. I absolutely love their original livery- the yellow rather than gold and that font

Well, there was the 'Tropical' livery, so that's not quite true. But that will definitely cause more than an uproar... RIP

Unlike other airlines, SQ's livery hasn't changed all that much throughout the years (not that I'm complaining). Their first post-MSA livery is relatively similar to the current one, making it rather pointless to have a retro livery.

Ah! I remember being on this flight back in '95! That would definitely be nostalgic if it does happen!
