I hope Boeing jumps on this and offers SQ a good deal for the 777-8X. There really isn't another option available. Too late for the 777-200LR now, and Airbus doesn't really have anything to offer to SQ. No news on the supposed A350-900R.

A350-900 has the A350-900R variant. SQ can simply change some of its existing A350-900 order to the R variant will enable them to fly ULH non-stop.Originally posted by FSJZ View PostNope, EWR is out of range for a A350-900 at MTOW.

But there will be ETOPS restriction given that it's only twin engine right?Originally posted by FN-GM View Post777-200LR can do it i think.

Yeap the CEO said they would reconsider bringing back these routes if they can find the equipment necessary for it. Another reason for them to buy some 777Xs.Originally posted by shikhargpt View PostSeriously doubt it. The 77W is the only aircraft in the SQ fleet that has the requisite range, and that's just barely. Not enough allocation for reserve fuel at MTOW, so unless SQ is willing to take severe load penalties, they will not be very keen on operating this route anytime soon unless they snag a 777X, which itself will take a while.

No I don't have a crystal ball, and I'm not expecting SQ to restart this any time soon, but I do hope that some time in the future, it does become profitable to fly ultra long haul using the new generation of long range twins coming up from Boeing/Airbus, whether through advances in efficiency, or in the unlikely event that the current oil price dip is not a one-off...Originally posted by HUGE AL View Post

I have very fond memories of an 18 hour SIN-EWR in Executive Y in 2006. As a passenger, I would not fly this sector in regular Y, but I would not mind paying a Premium Y fare for this ULH flight.
I am still hoping that the number crunchers can find a way for this to work in my lifetime.

Any chance of SQ restarting non-stop SIN-LAX, SIN-EWR? How about starting up SIN-SFO?

I can think of other reasons that would trump this.Originally posted by SQ22 View PostThis is exactly right. This is also the reason why you don't see the fuel surcharges going down despite the drastic drop in global oil prices.
