  • Visit to South America via Sao Paulo

    Dear All,

Planning a trip to South America involving Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina. Taking the SQ Flight to Sao Paulo. This will be the longest SQ Flight that I will be taking.

Brazilian visa can be obtained in Singapore. Argentina is visa free.

In case of Uruguay, I have been told that travelling on a Singapore passport will not require visa from the 1 October. Anyone knows whether that is true? Tried checking with the Uruguayan Embassy in Malaysia and the pleasant receptionist told me to call after 10 am.

However, calling Paraguayan Embassy, I was told to call back tomorrow.

Finally, for Bolivia, I was told that Bolivia has Visa on arrival. Anyone knows if this is true. Tried calling the Embassy in China and no one picked up the call. Maybe telephone number changed.

Any advice and past experiences will be welcomed. Thank you.

The latest update from the Visa Officer at the Uruguayan Embassy is that Singaporean passport holders no longer required to obtain visa effective from 1 Oct 2011. In fact he was kind enough to offer to send me an email so that I can show the necessary document at the Border control as there may be occasions whereby the immigration officer is not updated on the latest requirements. Nice Officer.

This leaves Bolivia and Parguayan side....to sought out.

Yes, please do that. I did the same when I went to Guatemala where a visa is not required for a Singapore passport holder. Got an email from the embassy in Japan.

So....will we get a TR? This trip sounds exotic

Very quick....just ten days and all business, unfortunately.

I have been rather idle when it comes to TR. But will try to do it if the trip comes to fruitition.

Depends on what he means by "business".

Visas aside, knowing a little Spanish and Portuguese will go a long way. I was stunned how little English was actually spoken. By my estimation less than 5% of the South American population could understand any English.
