  • My first ever flights planned with SQ

In October I have booked some flights with SQ as part of an Asian tour which encompasses the following route all on A380s:

The SQ part of my trip takes me to LHR-SIN-NRT-LAX

And I wanted to ask has anybody here ever flown this route all on A380s, in particular the NRT-LAX leg, which I am looking forward to.

I have booked the upper deck for LHR-SIN. How does this compare to lower deck? Bumpier? Noisier?

The upper deck is less noisy than the main deck, as there aren't nearly as many seats. Also, the window seats have a storage compartment next to the window

I personally prefer the 2-4-2 seating, as it doesn't feel as cramped as the 3-3-3 or 3-4-3.

Is there an airshow on the PTV, like there is on Emirates, where you can watch the onboard camera from tailfin and under the fuselage?

Also, what is SQ like with snacks and drinks? Plentiful, or am I going to have to run to the galley if I'm feeling a little parched?

Unfortunately, SQ doesn't have tail cameras.

As for the snacks.. On long flights, they have a snack service in between meals. IIRC, they were chips, peanuts, cookies, chocolates and sandwiches.

Actually, they do on the A380 - just that SQ hasn't hooked up to show it to passengers, but yes, it is used by the pilots to maneuver around airports.

Hint SQ: It makes for a GREAT value add on to some passengers

Actually, they also have cameras on their 77Ws, 1 on each horizontal stabilizer (which actually allow them to see the landing gears, unlike those on the A380s) and another behind (I think) the nose gear. The pilots showed me the camera feeds in the cockpit when I went to Hong Kong last Dec.

I think it's also on the 773. Perhaps that's why the CX 773s have nosewheel cams.

                Sorry for OT

I can't agree more! It's so boring now, if one doesn't sit next to the window. Emirate has the best tail, nose, down cameras I've encountered so far. Some airlines even let you listen in on the control tower chatter.

I have had advice from a friend that the SQ317 flight which leaves LHR at 11.30 is actually a night flight? Is this correct?

I was told that meals are served soon after take off, then it's lights out until just before Singapore when breakfast is served before landing.

Seems like a long time to have lights out, 8hrs or so?

Anyway, it looks like I am going to have to adjust to SIN time a day or two before I leave. I cannot wake up at 6am on the morning of my flight and then be expected to travel in 'night conditions' for virtually the whole journey.

Also, I did not know airlines have special exchange rates. Is this normal? My flight between NRT-LAX was £645 but according to realtime exchange rates it should have only been £509.

SQ317 flies through the night and arrives the morning after. There is smack service during the 'night'.

I've come to like it better as I've aged - the overnights are too much these days in Y, although 319 is the best of both worlds.
