  • Thai Lounge Access Offer

    Hi,

We are transiting through Bangkok on Thai in June 2011.

Thai Australia offers business class lounge access (2.5 hours) for AUD28 per person. The offer narrative refers to light snacks and a wide range of drinks that are available in the lounge.

    My questions are:
    1. Has anybody tried this offer before? What did they think of it?
    2. Which lounge would I get access to in Bangkok? Would it be the lounge in D section of the terminal or sections C or E? I understand that the C and E lounges are very basic.
    3. For AUD56 are there a number of good recommended eateries in the airport air-side that we could spend the 2.5hours at instead?

    Thanks

Sure it's not the Louis Tavern CIP Lounge?
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...

The c and e lounges are not much different to the d on terms of food and beverage. Just a bit smaller.

        Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. Pretty sure that is not the Louis Tavern CIP Lounge, but a Thai lounge.

Are there any other dinning options that are recommended air-side as an alternative to the lounge access I have been offered?

Have to say I can't recall hearing about TG offering lounge access for a fee.

If you are looking for alternative dining options to the lounge (personally I would not call the TG lounges a dining option in the first place) then a well travelled fellow SQTalker recommends a local Thai food place on level 4 called Mango Tree IIRC. He regularly goes there despite having lounge access. I think Pad Thai is around THB 150++.

I keep thinking I'll try Eat:Tion outside SKL's concourse C, out of pity for the owner who's always standing in front with a signboard... but it never happens. :/

I've tried Kinara Ramen before, it's ok...

+1. Yes I do think the food in the TG Biiz lounge is quite poor and unless you are into heavy hard liquor sessions in between flights I think you can have a better, more satisfying and cheaper meal outside of the lounge. I like Mango Tree as they do Thai food and Thai food only and not some mix of international food with none tasting really good. The food is pretty decent and price ranges from 100-300 THB maybe for appetizers / mains. IIRC they also offer free WiFi but you would have to ask about it.

Overall you will maybe spent 2hrs sitting around outside of the gate area which I think you could easily pass by having a stroll around the terminal and then grabbing a bite to eat in one of the food outlets. If you were there for 6hrs or so then I would say lounge access makes sense for a shower etc. and the fruits and drinks (still not the food) but this way I think 56 AUD is better used other ways.

Mango Tree sounds like a plan. Thanks again
