NZ increases amount of time IFE is available!

Emirates had adpoted the same policy - headphones on seats when arriving in Y and IFE ready to watch from the minute you take your seat... I wonder what SQs reasoning is behind their stance?

When did this come into effect?

I flew Emirates SIN - BNE last year in the middle of 2007 (okay, so it's awhile back) and was a bit annoyed when the in-flight announcements just kept going on and on and on, don't recall any IFE being available for quite a while until we were in the air (front-nose cam, belly cam notwithstanding).

I flew BLR to DXB on 13th June and the headsets in Y were already on the seat - my first & only EK flight so not sure if its standard policy or not...
