  • Long-haul aircraft on CX regional flights; adv seat selection

    Hey SqTALKERS

    I'll be heading to taipei via hong kong on CX in october.
    Currently on the booking engine, it shows an A330 or a B773 service for the morning flights.
    What are the odds i'll get the long-haul furbished A330 or the 773 being a 777-300ER? Cheers

    Neither really as TPE is really only an hour's flight and those aircrafts are mostly used for long haul.

    There might be the off chance that a flight is substituted at last minute but that cannot be guaranteed.

      Hahaha, thanks.
      However on a few days, cathay seem to send in their 77W for sin-hkg/ hkg-tpe service aye.

        Yes, for turnaround purposes... if its scheduled, then its part of their rotation. But for the flights you are asking for, if its listed, then that's what CX says (for now). But if its not, very unlikely it will be substituted by the long haul aircraft even at last minute. Chances are it will be the same aircraft type.

          What if the booking engine says it is a 773. Would it be a 777-300er or a normal 777-300?
          And i'm getting on the A343 service to singapore on my return trip, YES!

            773 = 777-300
            77A = 777-300ER
            333 = A330-300 Regional product
            33B = A330-300 Longhaul product

              I know but the prob is the booking engine on CX's website puts a 330 even on the long haul flights like to australia and shows 773 when it's clearly a 77W service eg. to vancouver.

                I had a look at the booking system, you can do a dummy booking get up to the payment stage & it allows you to select seats at this point. Work off the seat map to determine which equipment is being used.

                  The 777-300ER is 77W not 77A

                    77A is a CX aircraft model/configuration code.

                    CX codes-
                    77A = 777-300ER 3-Class New Longhaul product
                    773 = 777-300 2-Class Regional product
                    777 = 777-200 2-Class Regional product
                    330 = A330-300 2-Class Regional product
                    33B = A330-300 2-Class New Longhaul product
                    34C = A340-300 3-Class Old Longhaul product
                    34B = A340-300 2-Class New Longhaul product
                    74A = 747-400 3-Class New Longhaul product

                      Airlines may have different designations for the same aircraft. Haven't flown CX much, have you?

                        My apologies i thought all airlines followed the same pattern.

                          Make sure you select one of more flexible fare types, Cheaper restrictive fares don't allow seat selection.

                            Really? I just tried. Went till the payment stage but there wasn't any option to choose seats. And even on those 77W routes on the booking engine, it just opens up a window showing the 773 and 77W seat-map, not the actual type used on the day of the flight.

                              Which fare type did you select? Pick the "Economy Flex" fare.
