  • SQ Suites vs New First A380/77W LHR-SIN: A head to head same day and route comparison

    Hello

Over the next few posts I'll put up a little trip report that compares SQ R (SQ321) vs New F (SQ319), LHR-SIN - taken on the same day by aunty P and myself.

Warning: Commentary could be polarising - and the difference may not be quite as big as some might think it to be

    Stay tuned!

      Same same but different?

      Same same:

Both flights depart from the new Zone A area at Heathrow T3. Next to the VS checkin area, this is much improved, IMHO - than the old ones near Zone D

Don't have pics of the SKL (No dice anymore at the VSCH since may 1) They were apologetic, but rules are rules. We go onboard straight away!

Have to note this though: Both aunty P and I (separately of course) got escorted onto our flights from the gate. Don't know if this is new, but never had that before.

          Loads tonight are somewhat dismal: Aunt P's SQ319 6/22/130 , My SQ321 2/42/196

The now very familiar 77W Seat. Side bolsters are standard, which greatly increase comfort. Our very own Blueberry models the seat.

Leroy and Bubba on the other hand, fly Blueberry Class (tm) - Originally booked in 3F, we decide to annex 3C and 3D as well

On a night flight, I must say, skip the window seats and grab a double in the middle if you can

Have one screen showing flightmap, the other for regularly scheduled entertainment

A bit more difficult to achieve on the 77W though.

Settling in though - it's seats upright for takeoff and landing.
Standard SQFG foot shot from Aunty P

Standard SQFG foot shot from SQFG

Pushback occurs early on both flights, obvious difference being 321 in the dark, 319 in dusk-ish weather. As the big twin and super big quad climb out from the same runway - the scenery is somewhat different

12:38 to go! We're off on our 6900 mile trek. At this stage, aunty P is some 2300 or so miles down the road.

It'll be makan time shortly - so let's look at the menus!

                  Same same lah

                  From front to back:
First Class Menu we got, Suites Menu from this flight and at the rear, the Suites menu we got from December. Notice how it's the same cover as F now?

SQ321, due to departure time, has supper and "before touch down" menu, whereas SQ319 has dinner and "before touch down". As you'll see below - the differences aren't big at all

On the left: SQ319 Dinner, on the right SQ321 Supper. Only difference? 319 has satay where 321 doesn't, whereas 321 has the addition of the Kao Tom as a choice of mains. Tried to align the pic as best i could - hope you can all see it clearly.

                    Another main menu shot

Exactly replicated from the dessert side

The light bites menu: That's 319's on the top, 321's on the bottom. Or was it the other way around? I'm not sure

And before touch down, it's also identical (can't seem to find a shot of it)

No matter, even if the menus are strikingly similar, it's strikingly similar in another way in that it's all good still.

The satay (which was not catered for on 321). Blueberry tucks in.

                      The broth

                      Salad

                      Caviar

                      Beef Mains

BTC'ed Singapore Chicken Rice for Aunty P ex LHR

                      Tart

                      Some camomile tea

                      Some fruit

And then it's off to bed for the little fellas

Wakey wakey - it's a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Don't remember the brand, but it was freshly squeezed indeed

And we've got two new friends!

It's time to tuck into the noodles with charsiew. Dearly missed all that with all the Leberkäse, Käse-Leberkäse, bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, puzstakrainer, Käsekrainer, Bernerwürstel und sacher torte we've been gorging on.. thanks to Floboy and gang

I'll see if I can post mine. I don't think Aunty P and I were on the same flight (mine only had 2 in F which might have accounted for the more generous caviar serving, judging from the pic )

About 1330 local, the pair of GE90-115B's throttle back to begin our descent. This ER is almost back at her home.

Whilst at the same time, the Four Trent 970's are still humming away nicely over the bay of bengal

Time for a quick wander around the cabin.
Happily snapping away whilst mr 2A remained oblivious (believe it or not, mr 2A sat upright the entire flight). He ate nothing, drank nothing. Boarded the plane, and dozed off within 1 minute of sitting down, and in that upright state he remained till the wheels hit the ground 12 hours and 50 minutes later. For all intents and purposes, I think it just about counts as a solo R ride
