  • PEN and KL, what to do there???

I'm sorry to put this thread here, dunno where the exact place for this topic...

Will be off to PEN and KL for X'mas holiday on 24th....

Any Malaysia expert that can suggest me what to do in those cities? food, sightseeing, nightlife, daylife .... (paging SQFG and Leo... )
Will stay at Royal Penang and Istana Hotel KL.

    Thanks all....

I'm no KL expert. - I just live there

Food glorious food - I don't even know where to start on this. Malaysia is very diverse. What do you NOT eat?

For nightlife, i suppose the happening place is now "changkat" which is not far from the istana hotel/crowne plaza - an area that has a whole bunch of trendy clubs and bars.

        Me neither I'm no expert...

KL is a nice city only if you know the spots - as with most "new" cities, activities tend to be centred around shopping malls - major ones being (in my "favourites" order) Pavilion, Gardens Mall, Mid Valley, 1 Utama, KLCC (where the twin towers are), Lot 10 and many more.

There is the Malaysian Philharmonica that plays every Friday and Saturday evening, also matinee shows on Sunday afternoons.

Nightlife is rather varied - I like Skybar (the rooftop bar of Traders Hotel, about 10 minutes walk from Istana Hotel). "decent" drinks with music soft enough to have a nice conversation. If you're into the clubbing scene, there is always Zouk which is nearby. Otherwise the "new" clubs are located in the suburbs of Damansara (Laundry, Library, etc).

        Now on to Penang...

Penang is a land of food. If you are going there for a nice relaxing beach holiday getting some sun with a cocktail with them little umbrellas in it, please erase that picture off your mind now.

Food is what its all about. Local food of course - so pig out. I'll be in Penang from 27th to 31st back home to the much neglected house.

Georgetown is absolutely charming and should always be explored on foot. Take a hand towel from the hotel and keep it handy, you WILL sweat a whole lot (extremely high humidity).

Places of interests include Khoo Kongsi - a lavish traditional Chinese clan house, Little India, Batu Ferringhi, various fruit orchards in Balik Pulau, various temples and mosques too.

A little idea on what to see, here are some pictures of Penang taken during my last trip.

        That's Khoo Kongsi

That's one of the streets in Georgetown

        and finally,

One of the many things you can buy in Georgetown

        Hope the above helps

Just saw this thread... Was in KL from the 23rd and just got back to SIN a few hours ago... Could have met up for a drink but I was in Damansara (near The Curve / Ikea where there are a lot of "new" pubs as stated by Leo) which is a little out of KL city....
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...

I just saw this thread. I was going to say "EAT!!!" but see that several others beat me to it. Buying a larger pair of trousers may also be an idea.
