  • The tale of the killed kangaroo

I was travelling to SYD three weeks ago on the same flight I've already talked about in another thread, and the flight had been tiring.
Soon before landing two female cabin crew members took their seats in front of me. I was talking with my friend about New Zealand one of the FAs kindly enquired about where we were from.
I answered we were italian and we started talking about New Zealand and Australia. Nothwithstanding She looked asian she was australian. We discussed about some of the main issues about driving in Australia (driving on the left and so on), and we ended up talking about the risks a driver could face in Australia because of wild animals crossing the roads.

Unexpectedly, while I was telling them I usually ask for the full insurance when renting a car, she said "It happened to me to kill a kangaroo while driving with my car and it was damaged". There was a minute of astonishment, since probably neither me, my friend, our neighbour and her colleague were prepaired to hear so...
I confess I was going to laugh out loud, guessing the scene in my mind. Our neighbour looked at us in an amused way, and I thought the italian sentence "donna al volante, pericolo costante" (woman driving, constant risk) fitted very well with the situation. (I apologize with all the female SQtalkers. Please forgive me for my evilness).
Her colleague seemed very amused too, but the best came when the former said "I felt sooooo guilty"... her tone was so sophisticated and factitious that was so difficult for us to believe that and all of us started smiling.
What we cannot foresee was the final revelation... We all thought she felt so guilty thinking of the poor kangaroo but, no, she felt so guilty because "the car I was driving belonged to a friend of mine and I didn't know how to tell her"!!!!
I think there are no more comments to do.
There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

Kangaroos are generally regarded as pests here.

No need to go to Australia! To my surprise, I found out that you can find (and eat) kangaroo in Iceland.

I have brought Kangaroo meat in Tescos before.

When I was in Australia a few years ago I was driving down this road when I suddently noticed a kangaroo jumping along right next to my car. It perfectly matched my speed, if I sped up it would speed up, if I slowed down it would slow down. Me and my friends thought that this was very funny until it decided to try and join us in the car by diving through the window. Luckily in this case car and kangeroo escaped with no damage.

And amongst some, as food. Pity, I've never had the opportunity to try kangaroo meat.

            Macche cattivo!

'Roos are like deer I guess, cute creatures but need to watch out for them when driving in the outback. And both are harvested and make for a good source of protein on the dinner table

A couple of summers ago, this Brazilian steakhouse in Vancouver, BC, Canada, served kangaroo as part of their churrasco. It was actually one of the best cuts on the menu (next to the picanha )

Nothing wrong with a bit of roo in your diet, full of protein, less fat and cooked right - damn tasty

They can also be a bloody menace on the roads too, they seem to have this idea of being invincible and as such really don't seem to care as they bound up the freeways and then into on coming traffic...

Hitting a roo at 100km/h is not much fun, I can tell you that!

I've certainly seen roo meat sold at Safeways and Coles. I've also seen roo sausages at some gourmet food stores. And i believe they're a staple for Aboriginals. They're also sold as dog food.

Only time I've ever eaten roo is in the form of a roo burger down near where I used to live in St Kilda. It was certainly yummy.

Nor is it when they decide to pay you a home visit!

It's certainly very fun to chase after roos in an armoured vehicle (BX). It's perfectly fine to hit one and not get into trouble (just an awful lot of cleaning to do). It's not fine to hit a tree.

That's settled then. Next time I go to Sydney, the first thing I'm gonna eat is kangaroo steak!

Oh yeah. Kangaroos, they're from Austria aren't they? Nevermind what the T-shirt says.....

Ahh, let's hope the RSPCA doesn't read SQTalk...

You can also get the roo sausages at Safeway/Woolworths & Coles, also roo mince as well (just in case you feel like making a roo rissole or a roo burger patty )

Nothing better than an edible Coat of Arms
