Too funny. Yup, Tim does travel super light.

Don't subscribe to most of the tips though.

Always check a bag as I can't stand people who shlep their entire house onboard.

"To charge your devices in foreign countries, Mr. Hutchins packs an extension cord with room for three plugs, which means he has to bring only one converter for all of his gadgets."

This is what I do too....

Why? You can USB charge almost everything... All my travel gadgets are USB charged.

iPad cannot.... I like my iPad on charger and running a clock app throughout the night so that when my eyes open anytime, I am able to tell the time.... the iPad is placed such that it is in line of sight from the pillow....

then you have rechargable batteries, the power plug for the notebook.... 1 adaptor is never enough....

I topped that with a five-socket one. The extenson cord is handy in most hotels and if one needs a CPAP machine like me for sleep apnea, the extension cord will be like your AMEX credit card. "Never leave home without it".

Try the app Asus Ai Charger. Install it and it might actually work for you and allow your laptop to charge your iPad. For those laptops that can't (my current can't), an error will pop up after you tried to connect your iPad and just uninstall it.

I have a USB-iPad cable that has a switch that allows for either data exchange or power charging the iPad. They call it "stealth" mode though i can't understand why. Bought it at Challenger at Funan I think. I can even charge my iPad from SQ J seat USB plug.
