Checked both local news websites, and there's no news on this. Where's your source? It would have to be quite serious for them to close both runways if it is unplanned.

Your friend probably boarded on time, doors closed then didn't move for anything up to an hour like many have recently and just presumed the runways must be closed.

Flew on SQ172 this morning, we departed at 10:10am (20 mins after scheduled departure), so it seems luck was on our side today
