Sectors & Miles on cash-upgraded award tix?

Don't think we've discussed this before.

Say one has a award tix in Y (X to be accurate) and at check-in decides to pay cash to upgrade to C, will that tix become I or D? If it becomes D, is the pax entitled to sectors and miles?

Yes, I've seen it at LAX. Pax next to me paid $3,000 to upgrade to C for LAX-SIN. I had a chat with him in the lounge later. Having said that, he was on a VS-issued tix.

$3000? One way C fare is $2728+ on the one-stop and $3375+ on the non-stop. You could get 10-20% off with some corporate contracts.
