Yes, I feel the same. I think once they have all the older planes refurbished they will be quite nice to fly with, not SQ but better probably then most other North American carriers.
I just finished four segmetns, YVR-YYZ-MEX-YYZ-YVR on almost all different kinds of 767's, including an xm'd aircraft which was really great with the new seats and AVOD.
All four flights were good eventhough I flew in Y. Service, especially on the MEX-YYZ flight was wonderful but on all other flights too.
Also talked with one of the FA's, she told me that AC is hiring new flight attendants as the ones that have been hired 40 years ago are now retiring and there seem to be many of them.

I still think Air Canada flights are over priced for the distance travelled and you don't get free food. But I think they are enroute to something good so I hope they become better and better.

That is certainly true for some of the routes; for example: YVR-ICN if booked on their website and there are others. And that is definetly true when compared to our southern neihbours where you can fly SEA-MEX in business class the for the same price YVR-MEX lowest Y class on AC, and again there are many other routes like that.
But within Canada I really can't complain to much, just bought a ticket YVR-YLW for $ 49.00 each way of course ++++fees/taxes.
Same fares are available to YYC and YEG. If booked carefully you can get flights to YYZ from YVR for just over $ 400.00 return all in (though only 50% non-status earning miles), for a 5 hour flight.
Yes, the food is missed but that is the case all over North America now.
I take AC's service any day over any other airline in North America I have flown on so far which does not include airlines like JETBLUE or Continental, which I have heard good things about with regards to their service.
