  • Fires in Attica (Athens, Greece)

Late August 2009, not the first time this happens, but certainly the worst nightmare this Greek prefecture has ever seen (excluding wars and/or political instability periods).

The damage to the eco-system is huge, we take out our own eyes wuth our own hands; future generations will pay dearly for this; the damage may in some instances be almost impossible to recover from.

Went for a drive today, and on my way to a friend's vineyard close by, took these shots. Total catastrophe, however almost all villas and residences are saved, mostly due to the heroism of the firefighters.

    Pictures speak for themselves.

Pictures show only a very small part of the disaster area.

Was planning to go for a swim one of these days, and to do this I take a route over the mountains. All this area as well is almost burned now; if I drive through there and also through lake Marathon in the next two days, I'll take more shots and will post accordingly.
