Think they got the idea from the Top Gear episode where the Bugatti Veyron took on the Eurofighter over 1 mile and back?

If it's a true cup car it will beat the jumbo. Depending on load te jumbo will achieve a max of 175 mph so it will start say catching up halfway down the runway. But given the Porsche needs to stop sometime... it will win.

The slight difference with that one was the fighter went vertical.

its easy - for sure the porche will surely be faster than the Jumbo plane from standstill to even 160kmph or depending on the porche even all the way to 260kmph - as the Jumbo takes abt almost 45secs to 60 secs to rotate speed at above 200 knots.

I stand corrected, it was a race against a 777 (AKL airport & youtube). Result was 1 win each.

Porsche car wins race against Boeing 747

                  2009/09/05

SINGAPORE: A sports car beat a Boeing 747-200F jetliner in a first ever race of its kind held between the two machines in Asia, at the Changi Airport, here today.

The car, a Porsche 911 GT3 Carrera Cup, driven by race car driver Yuey Tan Yu Hian, 27, finished seconds ahead of the jumbo jet, piloted by former Singapore Airlines pilot Capt Peter Chin Leo Chin Fang, 64.

The race was organised by Changi Airport Group (CAG) to mark the start of the Singapore F1 Grand Prix season this month.

In the 1.7km race, the car, positioned 200 metres apart from the aircraft, sped on the taxiway while the plane, which belonged to Singapore cargo carrier Jett8 Airlines, raced parallel on the runaway and flew off after the finishing line.

The car's maximum speed can reach 280km per hour while the plane’s top speed in the air is 900 km per hour.

More than 500 spectators, including Singapore Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Lim Hwee Hua, witnessed the race from a grandstand specially-built on the airport tarmac, while hundreds more watched via live screening at the Terminal 3 departure hall.

Prior to the race, Porsche launched its new model to the second generation of the 911 series, the Porsche 911 GT3, which was making its Asia-Pacific debut at the airport. - Bernama
