  • SIN-Malaysia air restrictions may be lifted

From the Economist.com Singapore city guide: http://www.economist.com/cities/briefing.cfm?city_id=SG

Restrictions on commercial air traffic between Singapore and neighbouring Malaysia could end as early as June, according to Tony Fernandes, head of Malaysia's AirAsia, the region’s largest low-cost carrier. A bilateral agreement presently prevents most competition to the countries’ national carriers, ensuring an effective duopoly and high fares. But politicians in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur have indicated recently a desire to review the arrangement...

Allowing AirAsia and other low-cost carriers to ply this route would revolutionise the 45-minute flight. Fares now start at about S$300, but AirAsia reckons it could charge one-sixth that. “It's long overdue,” said Mr Fernandes. “We think this market, just for AirAsia, could do about 22 flights a day.”
    It's about time!

I hope so! It's ridiculous paying 350 bucks for the RT F fare.

still believed its at least a year's wait - if at all it does materialised as the ball is actually on Malaysian side.
