Hello GoldenPigeon. Greetings from Hong Kong.

There are 6 H1N1 cases in Hong Kong, all of which are imported.
There is a rather strict health check at the border where you will be required to undergo a temperature check and fill in a health form.
Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection Daily H1N1 update.

Yes, I think it's pretty safe to travel here.

I was in HK from May 3-8 and stayed at Empire Hotel HK which was directly across from Metropark Hotel HK which was closed for 7-8 days because of swine flu.

I think it's perfectly safe to travel to HK.

I went back and forth to Macau two times during that time also

I'd say Hong Kong is reassuringly safe. Just in case though, take a few precautions. Maybe a mask, Hazmat suit, etc.

If he can't be reassured by reports from someone who lives in HK and from someone else who stayed across the hotel that became infamous as the quarantine hotel, I doubt there's much you can do at this point.

Except perhaps avoid worsening his blood pressure, cancel his trip, and offer him an alternative.

This whole swine flu scare is mad. I went to Madrid last week with some people from school and one of them insisted on wearing a mask while being in the airport (he took it off on the airplane because well, germs and viral infections don't spread at all in the cabin ). He also insisted on everyone buying such a mask and tried to make us wear it, annoying to say the least

The only thing to do against such hypochondriacs is to explain to them how many diseases their body shakes off everyday that they aren't even aware off. If this doesn't work just let them wear their bloody masks and /ignore them!
Capslock is cruise control for cool... not!

See you at W:O:A 2010- rain or shine!

Take the Michael O'Leary stance - pop a few panadol, suck on a throat lozenge and get over it...

Alcohol consumption isn't such a problem for Muslims actually, unless its as a drink.

If your dad has to go, remind him to buy and wear surgical mask, n95 mask. You can buy those at Changi Airport or at HK airport.

I was there on 24th May and almost 1/3 of the travellers wear mask now.
