IIRC, Not for the cadet program. I'm actually surprised to see that they take HKG residents now. Used to be only Malaysian/Singaporeans. Pity they don't take girls.

With SQ, getting your PPL, CPL/IR or ATPL may actually HINDER your chances of getting in the ab initio cadet program. They prefer candidates with NO flying habits (that are usually hard to "cure"), and even then, you'd still need to go through their program again.

SQ is fiercely loyal to its people (probably because of Temasek Holdings), and they'll pretty much hire only from within Singapore unless absolutely necessary. Why hire someone from another country at the expense of having one of its own citizens lose out on a job?

I just realised they remove the age-limit as well, I don't remember there was one.

I think the education requirements sets a minimum age in general...unless the person's a genius. But in that case, usually a genius may apply for another job other than a pilot.

AFAIK, you would need to state your occupation on the residency application. I don't think you can go in there without securing a job beforehand.

Most likely that is the case. They may have been recruited by SQ, so getting residence for them would have been a far easier process. IIRC, after 9/11, when a good number of U.S.-based pilots were furloughed, SQ and CX took the opportunity to hire them, seeing an opportunity to expand its fleet during the downturn.
