TOKYO - JAPAN'S number-two carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) received a government warning on Monday that it misled the public with false advertisements for its 'premium class' service.

The Fair Trade Commission said the carrier's newspaper advertisement showed wide seats with partitions between them to isolate individuals seating next each other, saying the new domestic service would begin in April.

However, the airline did not create such seats in April and continues to operate most of its planes without the advertised seats, the commission said.

Even for the new service, the company only changed the seat covering and rearranged spaces between them, the commission said.

'The company shall announce to consumers that (the advertisement) shows much better seats than the actual ones,' the commission said in a statement.

ANA apologised and said the advertisement was aimed at better name recognition and a good image of the new service, not necessarily a description of the new service.

'We seriously accept the order to eliminate the advertisement, will do the utmost to prevent the same mistake, and aim to regain the trust of the public,' the company said in a statement. -- AFP
