  • gym in airport? and mobile phones?

Going to be flying into Singapore/Chagi for the first time (flying in from Europe). Could someone help me with a couple of questions:

    - Is there a gym I could use in the airport? Arriving in the morning and I won't be able to check into my hotel for a bit, so would be a good way to kill a little time and grab a shower... I'm flying cattle class though don't mind playing a bit to use a gym.
    - What mobile phone system is in use in Singapore? I have an old (European, non-tri-band) mobile phone that's ideal for travel: long battery life, small, loud alarm ring, and pretty much unbreakable. Of course, if it won't work in Singapore I'll take a tri-band phone instead...

    Thanks in advance.

Triband phones are not necessary. As long as your phone supports GSM900 or GSM1800, you should be able to use in SIN.

Thanks - great. GSM900/1800 is basically a standard European mobile, right?

Yep, e.g. it's what we have here in the UK:

          Here's the gym thread:

And you may even want to check out the rooftop pool (really!):

No because by that point, you'd have gone through immigration.

The thing to do is use the pool etc - BEFORE going through immigration and collecting your luggage. After a while, the airport staff will take your luggage off the belt and when you arrive at the luggage hall, you just need to go and ask them for it (which is fine).

Great - thanks. So I can assume the staff in Chagi will be sensible about a left bag

S$ 8 for use of gym/lounge sounds like a decent deal, too http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_U...strelax01.html

First and foremost, welcome to Singapore. If you don't wanna pay, you might want to consider just sleeping in the sleepers lounge. All free and nice. Just ask around.

As for mobile phones, besides America, Korea and Japan, almost the entire world uses GSM. No worries on that. Cheers!

If GOD created me for only 1 reason. That reason would be to the love of my wife. If there was any other reasons involved, that would be for the love of Singapore Airlines

                      Thanks - good to know.

Sleeping lounge is a good idea - but I'm getting in at a (local, though not home) time when I should be awake and about...so I think I'll try to stay awake and convince my body it really *is* morning

Erm..Japan and North America (and small part of Korea) has a WCDMA network for many years. So you can use your latest 3G phone in these countries easily. However, AT&T in USA uses WCDMA on the 850Mhz. Most 3G phones support 1900/2100Mhz only.

Sadly, looks like the mobile thing is a bit of a moot point anyway - my mobile company have decided that I'm not able to use it in Singapore. Head. Desk. I can get unsecured credit for way more than I'd ever be able to repay, but my mobile company are worried I'd make a few too many phone calls...

Anywhere in Changi/Singapore where I could hire a mobile?

Provided your phone is unlocked, perhaps simply buy a "Pay As You Go" SIM (which I assume are available in Singapore ?), charge it with some cash and use that ?

Here's one option from Singtel, the largest telcom provider in Singapore:
