I was wavering about my CX status (my BA status would be more useful for the bulk of my travel). And then I decided to go for it, and do a little run to HKG to ensure my MPC (MPO for the cognoscenti) status in the coming year.
Problem was, all flights from HKG to LHR were fully booked for early January. Well, it wasn't really a problem, given CX guarantees Y seating for MPC Golds for mileage-earning fares. A call to the toll-free MPC line to get myself on the lowest such fare (V); another one to the UK Reservations line to issue the tickets; and lo and behold: I now have a weekend run to HKG (to meet my brother for some brotherly quality time together). What a fab way to start out the new year.
(I'll share with you the experience of a full CX Y cabin. I'm not too optimistic, given my past experiences.)
A special thanks to SQTalker kchika for coaching me through the intricacies of the seat guarantee facility for MPC Golds.
