  • Guaranteed seating: why I'm going to protect my CX status (this year, at least)

I was wavering about my CX status (my BA status would be more useful for the bulk of my travel). And then I decided to go for it, and do a little run to HKG to ensure my MPC (MPO for the cognoscenti) status in the coming year.

Problem was, all flights from HKG to LHR were fully booked for early January. Well, it wasn't really a problem, given CX guarantees Y seating for MPC Golds for mileage-earning fares. A call to the toll-free MPC line to get myself on the lowest such fare (V); another one to the UK Reservations line to issue the tickets; and lo and behold: I now have a weekend run to HKG (to meet my brother for some brotherly quality time together). What a fab way to start out the new year.

(I'll share with you the experience of a full CX Y cabin. I'm not too optimistic, given my past experiences.)

A special thanks to SQTalker kchika for coaching me through the intricacies of the seat guarantee facility for MPC Golds.

That's a pretty generous and handy benefit. The relatively high thresholds for MPC elite tiers does seem worth it if you get to use those perks.

And advanced congrats on the status requalification!

I thought that honorific was a title reserved for a certain CGK-based SQTalker.

That is Mr. Traitors Air. You got the title for being green.

Green as green kebaya. Or, green as being a newbie. Or else, a person who pointed out about my green flat!

Ah so. I bow in the direction of Mr Traitors Air, enlightened and humbled.

(I have a title! Though green is sooo not my color. )

                  I think LHR-HKG I am.

If you fly HKG-LHR frequently, ex-HKG L fares are much better than ex-LHR. ex-LHR V-K fares at low season have been increased by 15%,which makes the fares become more expensive than ex-HKG. However ex-HKG L-K fares are only valid for 2 months.

Congratz on retaining your status and make full use of this benefit.

Knowing CX, I'm doubtful you'll end up there.

Sir Green Traitor, welcome to The Traitorship.
Seems like you are more of a traitor than I am - as proven by your shiny yellow precious metal status.

A guarantee op-up for jjpb3 because CX loves his traitorship so much

I think you have more miles clocked on Traitor Air, though. Many of the miles that went into my shiny card come from OW partners.
