  • TG F - Which aircraft configuration?

I am interested in TG F from LHR-BKK.

How does one know which aircraft configuration that one gets or is it used predominantly for the LHR-BKK route?

I noted from jjpb3's trip report that his was the new config. Was he extremely lucky to get that since there are only 10 fitted with the F sleeper pods. Yet, when I check TG website, they indicated the new config.

    Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

LHR-BKK (and vice versa) usually gets the new cabin, at favourable odds even when compared to *A hubs like FRA and MUC.

But this is TG, so there's always that wee (well, OK, not that small) possibility of an equipment swap. It's always good not to get your hopes up too high; it's even better if you're not paying for TG F with cash .

Does TG still have many of 744s in the old config??

Unfortunately yes, and they have no hesitation in sending them on a premium route as I found out on a LHR-BKK flight in the last 12 months.

I believe they are also sending it to MUC as well from January instead of the A346 at times.

You'd be unlucky to get the old config from LHR or FRA, but it does happen. This is TG remember.

(crosses fingers as he's doing BKK-FRA next week)

I wonder why TG just don't go ahead and retrofit all their 744's!

I flew on a TG B744 BKK-SYD in economy and it was pretty good, except no PTVs. When will they start retrofitting all those 744s and A333s with the new cabin?

I think the management in THAI is still corruption and has to pay too much for the cost that why they can't effort to retrofitted the aircraft. As a Thai citizen, I still fly with Singapore Airline rather than THAI. Unless they change to the new aircraft and new product. I have one of my friend who is cabin crew in THAI. He said new THAI aircraft have a lot of problems with PTVs. The system down after take off very often and end up with no PTVs.. Oh well....

Just going to chance it and see what happens.

Well I am pleased to report I did not get TG'd with an equipment swap after all.

I was also pleasantly surprised to get a very good crew on the flight as well. The last couple of F flights on a 744 had been very underwhelming whereas on the two A346 flights in F this year the crew had been excellent.

Wine menu has also reappeared although this has managed to prove the Grande Dame has gone (Dom only now) and according to the crew that and the Caviar are unlikely to return any time soon. Despite reports of no PJ's on recent flights these were handed out with amenity kits prior to take off.

All in all a very enjoyable flight, as it should be in F.

Anything unique or special that TG offers which I should look out for/look forward to on TG F?

Well, on the way back (BKK-LHR), there's the TG F Spa Lounge. I thought the massage and service were great! The buggy ride for TG F passengers at BKK was also much appreciated.

Overall the ground experiences at BKK had elements that felt special relative to those of SQ F. I agree that onboard, it offered nothing special vis-a-vis SQ F.

I will be arriving into NKK new airport on TG F and departing on SQ F.

The last time, arrival was a nightmarish 1 hr wait at immigration.

Now that I am on TG F, are there any special treatment at arrival? I noted there was a few lanes on the extreme right but these are dignitaries or regular permanent residents IIRC. Can I use them?

Oooh, massage at spa lounge? Can I go as SQ F pax? I'll go check out the BKK airport website to glean some more info.

TG F should get you fast-track at BKK immigration (including a buggy ride from the aircraft). If you were only transiting to SQ F, there would be no pickup at the aircraft (at least they didn't when I flew).

Sorry, I don't think SQ F gives you access to the Spa Lounge.

Oh I presumed you knew all about the F treatment for pax.

As jjpb3 says, you will be met at the aircraft on arrival by a TG rep and if you are a fair distance away you will be given a buggy ride to the F lounge. If you are close in they will walk you to the lounge.

If you are transferring to SQ F then immigration doesn't matter. However if you are going into town or just going through for some reason the TG rep will escort you through the diplomatic channel and into baggage reclaim where another TG staff member will wait with you for your luggage and take it through customs for you. You used to then get a complimentary limo into the city but they canned this when they left Don Muang.

As jjpb3 says no Spa Lounge access for SQ pax, or anyone other than TG F pax.
