Carbon tax would kill aviation industry: Labor

        http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...-23349,00.html

        Paul Maley
        June 19, 2007

LABOR'S shadow transport spokesman has attacked a proposal for a carbon tax on Australia's domestic airlines, saying it fails the cost-benefit analysis.

Martin Ferguson told parliament that a call by think tank The Australia Institute for a $30 carbon tax on domestic flights and an end to the promotion of the aviation industry was "brazen in its simplicity".

Mr Ferguson said civil aviation accounted for 0.9 per cent of Australia's greenhouse emissions and was vital in a country as vast as Australia.
