  • Enhanced benefits on SQ and Virgin Australia

    Just received this.

Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia entered into a partnership in 2011, comprising codeshare flights as well as enabling KrisFlyer members to earn KrisFlyer miles and redeem for flights on Virgin Australia.

As a further benefit from this partnership, you can now earn KrisFlyer Elite Miles which will count towards your tier status when you travel on Singapore Airlines codeshare flights1 operated by Virgin Australia within Australia, Trans-Tasman and between Australia and the Pacific islands.

In addition, you can also redeem for travel on Virgin Australia's Premium Economy Class where it is available. With this, your KrisFlyer miles can now be redeemed for flights in all cabin classes on Virgin Australia.

We hope you will take advantage of these new benefits and look forward to welcoming you on board again soon.

    Yours sincerely,
    Shirlene Teo
    Manager Loyalty Marketing

1 A Singapore Airlines codeshare flight will have a four-digit SQ flight number although the flight is operated by another airline. Do note that when travelling on a codeshare flight operated by our codeshare partner, the Conditions of Carriage of the operating carrier applies, and these may differ from Singapore Airlines’ conditions.

Yep, got it also. I do wonder, however, if this is effective from today or only 10 April as per their previous announcement.

Virgin should just come under StarAlliance already
      Life's A Bitch,
      Love It

If GOD created me for only 1 reason. That reason would be to the love of my wife. If there was any other reasons involved, that would be for the love of Singapore Airlines

It may be better for SQ that they aren't. Like how, apparently, keeping Silkair out of Star Alliance discourages travellers from flying other *A carriers to SIN and connect to Silkair. Thus if Virgin joins Star, passengers who would otherwise connect to or fly SQ might fly other *A carriers.

I got it as well, from The PPS Club, which on first very quick scan and seeing 'will count towards your tier status' led me to think initially that they were saying we could earn PPS status flying them, which clearly we can't. It does make you wonder why the message came from the The PPS Club and nut just a normal KF mail but there you go...

It also does exactly the opposite as it discourages those with *A status from flying SQ if it means flights on MI as they don't get the benefits of their *A status. I personally know a few people who fly TG instead of SQ due to this.

I haven't got the email yet, but what it says doesn't really have much value for domestic VA flyers, as when I book VA, it's obviously not codeshared. Would be good if it did though so flights to BNE could help keep me in Gold

And now TG are disconnecting Thai Smile from *alliance so I will be avoiding TG on certain routes now (HDY for one)
