  • PPS Value confusion

Since the new PPS values are out now, thought I would share what I got on some of the sectors.... I mainly fly RTW tickets, so curious what kind of value what people get on theirs too...

Star 3 RTW in F bought in HKG in March 2007:

    BKK-SIN $568 $0.63/mile
    SIN-NRT $1476 $0.51/mile
    NRT-LAX $2255 $0.41/mile
    JFK-FRA $4400 $1.14/mile
    IST-DXB $1850 $0.99/mile
    CDG-SIN $5200 $0.77/mile

Star 3 RTW in F bought in HKG in December 2006:

    BKK-SIN $576 $0.64/mile
    SIN-DEL $1251 $0.48/mile
    DEL-SIN $1251 $0.48/mile
    SIN-HKG $878 $0.55/mile
    HKG-SFO $2759 $0.40/mile
    JFK-FRA $1889 $0.49/mile
    CDG-SIN $2864 $0.43/mile
    SIN-NRT $2550 $0.77/mile

interesting to note that the 2 CDG-SIN flights I took had such a huge difference in PPS Value... as the currency didn't move that much, and the fare went up about 10% between the times when I bought the tickets..

Would be great if we could compile a list of RTW PPS values to see which routes generally give best value per mile! haha...

The value will be different for the same segments based on the fare paid, obviously. So what's the point of figuring it out per mile?

Comparing PPS Value earned to what you actually paid might be more useful:

          Ticket: BOM-SIN-NRT-SIN-BOM
          Place of issue: SQ.com
          Base fare: S$3000
          Total PPS Value earned: 3766

          Description PPS Value S$
          SQ 421 J BOM-SIN 681 S$0.28/mile
          SQ 998 J SIN-NRT 853 S$0.26/mile
          SQ 11 J NRT-SIN 1,550 S$0.47/mile
          SQ 422 J SIN-BOM 682 S$0.28/mile

          Ticket: SQ/VS CRTW, DEL-xSIN-ICN-SIN-xHKG-SFO//JFK-FRA-xSIN-CGK-xSIN-DEL
          Place of issue: BOM
          Base fare: S$6175
Total PPS Value earned: 3182 so far, TBD after remaining legs in Apr/May

          Description PPS Value S$
          SQ 407 J DEL-SIN 524 S$0.20/mile
          SQ 882 J SIN-ICN 567 S$0.19/mile
          SQ 883 J ICN-SIN 567 S$0.19/mile
          SQ 866 J SIN-HKG 368 S$0.24/mile
          SQ 2 J HKG-SFO 1,156 S$0.17/mile

well, true.. but I am hoping that some segments might show a higher credit per mile... lets say if CDG-SIN consistantly shows a credit of over $1 per mile regardless of where you buy the ticket, and LHR-SIN consitantly shows credit of around $0.5 per mile.. then it is obviously better value to take the CDG flight to maximize credits on your RTW where the mileage is similar... also... if flying the same routes, but eastbound gives more PPS value than westbound, then it will be better to do all the RTWs in an eastbound direction... so just wanted to see if we can do an exercise to see if we can make any sense of it.. haha..

Makes sense...I didn't get it the first time around. Blame it on trying to cut down coffee intake.

Just got a call from KF on a question I ask if surcharges for flying 77Ws count towards PPS Value...... NO!

IMO, that's inane. The surcharges are what SQ impose for the privilege of riding in the new cabins and are certainly part of the expense of choosing to fly SQ.

I'm hoping the KF agent is wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if s/he isn't.

On a CRWSTAR2 back in Jan.
                        SIN-FCO = $2,610
                        LAX-SIN = $3,410

I don't remember the exact routing. But I think here what I got for FRTW1

                              BKK - SIN 782
                              SIN - FRA 2647
                              FRA - JFK 1800
                              SFO - SIN 5000

Not to forget, warmest welcome to SQTalk, Kiwi.
